Sex is an exercise, like jogging or aerobics, and it can bring on low blood sugar, says the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Exercise helps you use insulin more efficiently, so any given amount of insulin has more blood-sugar-lowering power. That’s why insulin doses should usually be decreased before and after exercise, says the ADA.To avoid low blood sugar, plan to eat food either immediately before or shortly after sex to cover the glucose you use. You may also want to check your blood sugar first (although it may reduce the spontaneity of the moment!). You can also consider increasing your regular snack before going to bed.Reprinted from 101 Tips for Improving Your Blood Sugar by the University of New Mexico Diabetes Care Team.
